Jamaica is the largest English speaking island in the Caribbean. It is located 90 miles South of Cuba and 100 miles West of Haiti. Jamaica was first inhabited by Arawak Indians, the residents at the time of Columbus' visit in 1494.
The country was first ruled by the Spanish, and then later by the British before gaining independence in 1962.
